Planning and Community Development
The Planning & Community Development Department, located in City Hall, is responsible for the development, implementation, and enforcement of ordinances and planning related development codes established to improve the physical environment and functional capabilities of the City. This Department is also charged with the task of reviewing plans and performing inspections of construction within the City limits to ensure that all structures are constructed safely and in compliance with applicable building codes and ordinances.
The Planning & Community Development Department handles the following:
- Site and building plans review
- Questions concerning zoning and flood zones
- Development and subdivision inquiries
- Building, electrical and plumbing permits
- Inspection for all construction disciplines
- Applications to Architectural Review Board, Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission, Construction Board of Appeals, & Community Appearance Board
- Building code questions
- Sign approval and permits
Planning and Community Development is also the home to the City’s Geographic Information Systems management. GIS, as it’s commonly known, is a system that captures, stores, analyzes, manages, and presents data in a geospatial form. The system basically takes different types of data and links it to a particular location. In a sense, GIS is the merging of cartography and database technology.
Here are some ways we use GIS:
- Resource Management
- Environmental Impact Assessment
- Urban Planning
- Code Enforcement
- Permit Analysis
